St. Jude's November Stewardship Emphasis and Pledge Campaign

Stewardship is part of our Christian discipleship. Christian discipleship is always a journey. We learn together to walk with Jesus in the way of the cross. This means that our journey is marked by love for God and for our neighbour. This means that our journey is marked by generosity and sacrifice. This also means that our journey is marked by joy.

The resources included in this package are offered as encouragement on our journey.  Thinking through our financial commitment to St. Jude's each year gives us the opportunity to grow in our discipleship.

On this page you will find a letter from the rector, your annual pledge form, and information about what your gifts to St. Jude's enable in the church and community. We invite you to read through and reflect upon your participation in the part of God's mission entrusted to us here at St. Jude's.

Letter from the Rector

Summary of the Rector's Letter

The Reverend Canon Dr. David Anderson has written a letter to the parish and included in this package, making the case that November is the natural time for us all to prayerfully consider our participation in God's mission through the stewardship of our time, skills, and money. It takes approximately $2,570 to run St. Jude's each day. The rector asks us to prayerfully consider our participation and contribution in St. Jude's ministry.

Good stewardship also calls us to celebrate what God has been doing in our midst, to root our generosity in gratitude and the love of God. The rector's letter celebrates some highlights and thanks us all for doing our part to make ministry and mission happen at St. Jude's.

What is Different About our Stewardship Emphasis this Year?

Your Stewardship Committee is providing this year's stewardship resources online as a first step this year. This will not only save us on postage but give us the opportunity to provide timely resources for our prayerful consideration.

We also plan to hold house gatherings around the parish where we will learn about stewardship and Christian discipleship together.

What Your Gifts Support

It takes approximately $2,570 each and every day of the year to fund St. Jude's vital ministries. These include:

Worship and Music

Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name, bring an offering. Worship the Lord in holy splendour. … Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. (1 Chronicles 16: 29, 36a)

Our life of worship is central to who we are at St. Jude’s. Worship is our response to God at work in our lives and in the world. Our worship is rooted in the Anglican tradition; however, our style of worship is never more important than the One we worship who is revealed in Jesus Christ. Worship and music at St. Jude’s includes our regular weekly worship services on Sundays and Wednesdays, monthly Jazz Vespers and Choral Evensong, four choirs, choral scholars, and special events such as a Christmas Carol Sing, The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, Holy Day and festal services such as Christmas, Holy Week, and Easter.

Worship and Music represents 47% of St. Jude’s annual budget costs or approximately $1,200 per day.

Caring for Neighbours

For the whole law is summed up in a single commandment, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ (Galatians 5:14)

Our ministry of Caring for Neighbours is expressed in a myriad of ways, including several projects and partnerships under the auspices of our Justice and Servant Ministries, such as: prepared meals delivered to vulnerable neighbours; groceries for families; the Summer Barbecue Program; the Pantry Program; and Community Produce Gardens. Additionally, a number of other active groups care for our neighbours, including: The Tomato Ladies; the Indigenous Scholarship Fund; the Crisis Relief Fund; and the funds from the Christmas Bazaar and Rummage Sales which support ministries and partnerships. In addition to all of this, St. Jude's provides space for vital community programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-anon, and others.

Caring for our Neighbours represents 10% of St. Jude’s annual budget costs or approximately $260 per day.

Faith Formation

The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of faith and the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ. (Ephesians 4:11-13)

St. Jude’s faith formation activities currently include Children’s Church, Bible Studies, Revive, Church on Tap, Confirmation, Baptismal, and Marriage Preparation.

Faith Formation represents 24% of St. Jude’s annual budget costs or approximately $620 per day.

Pastoral Care and Community Life

Bear with one another’s burden and in this way, you fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)

They devoted themselves to the apostle’s teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and the prayers (Acts 2:42)

St. Jude’s community life activities currently include Men’s and Women’s Fellowship, Lay Pastoral Visiting, hospital and home visits, friendly callers, senior’s residence and long-term care centre worship services. We look forward to expanding the number of community events bringing parishioners and community members together.

Pastoral Care and Community Life represents 18% of St. Jude’s annual budget costs or approximately $470 each day.
