Open to secondary and post-secondary students of all voice types, St. Jude’s Choral Scholarships invite young musicians to sing with a focused, welcoming ensemble in one of Oakville’s most iconic churches. Scholars gain valuable experience singing a wide-ranging repertoire alongside professional and volunteer choristers while participating in the best of the Anglican choral tradition—including Sunday Eucharist, monthly Choral Evensong, and seasonal events.
Choral Scholars grow musically through mentorship and performance, committing to the choir season from September to mid-June. Some services may take place during school holidays, and scholars follow this regular schedule:
Weekly & Monthly Commitments:
- Thursdays: 7:30–9:30 PM rehearsal
- Sundays: 9:30–10:15 AM rehearsal; 10:30–11:30 AM service
- Monthly Choral Evensong: 2:30–3:45 PM rehearsal; 4:00–4:45 PM service
Scholars receive an annual honorarium of $2,000, or $1,500 with monthly private lessons (voice, piano, or organ). Additional fees are available for weddings and funerals throughout the year.
Application & Audition Process
The deadline to apply is late September 2025. Auditions invite candidates to bring a prepared solo piece of their choice, and to sing a brief choral excerpt provided in advance. Additional components include a short sight-singing exercise, vocal range assessment, and an informal conversation with the Director of Music.
Candidates will also be invited to participate in one or more rehearsals before formally committing to the scholarship program.
To apply, please send a completed application form to the Director of Music, Sebastian Moreno, at choir@stjudeschurch.net. For more information—or to arrange an informal conversation about the position—please contact the church office at 905-844-3972, and Sebastian will be pleased to speak with you.
