The application process for Choral Scholarships for the academic year 2024-2025 is now live. Please contact choir@stjudeschurch.net for further information or to make an application.

Choral Scholarships at St. Jude's Anglican Church are offered to secondary and post-secondary students of all voice types who are wanting to sing with a very focussed and friendly choir, with exposure to a wide-ranging repertoire, in one of the most iconic churches in Oakville. Through its four choirs, St. Jude’s provides the best of the Anglican choral tradition at Sunday Eucharist, monthly Choral Evensong, and special events throughout the year.

St. Jude’s Choral Scholars experience growth and education by singing alongside skilled professional and volunteer singers in St. Jude’s Choir. The choir season is based around the academic year, though some services may take part during school holidays, with scholars committing to the following schedule between September to mid-June:

  • Thursdays: 7:30-9:30 PM rehearsal
  • Sunday mornings: 9:30-10:15 AM (rehearsal); 10:30-11:30 AM (service)
  • Monthly Choral Evensong: 2:30-3:45 PM (rehearsal); 4:00-4:45 PM (service)

The annual honorarium for each scholar is $2,000 or $1,500 with a monthly private music lesson (either on vocals, piano, or organ), with extra fees available for weddings and funerals throughout the year.

The deadline for applications will be late September 2024. At audition, candidates will be asked to bring with them a prepared piece of their own choice to sing and a brief choral excerpt that will be provided before the audition. There will also be a short test of sight-singing, some scales to determine vocal range, and an informal conversation with the Director of Music. Finally, candidates will be invited to participate in one or more choir rehearsals before committing to the requirements of the scholarship.

To apply, please send a completed application form to our Director of Music, Sebastian Moreno via the email choir@stjudeschurch.net. For any further information or if you wish to have an informal conversation about the position,  please call the church office at 905-844-3972, and Sebastian would be pleased to talk with you.
