The Indigenous Students Scholarship Fund supports Indigenous students of First Nations, Inuit and Métis, origin, who are enrolled in a fulltime program at Sheridan College and demonstrate financial need. They are selected by the college. So long as financial need and good academic standing continues, support can accompany the student to graduation.

The initiative began in 2008, when former parishioner Faith Banton felt called to address the barriers impeding Indigenous students’ access to postsecondary education. Loonies, toonies, and other change collected in the beautiful boxes she designed amounted to a first scholarship of $1,000 in September 2010.

The Indigenous Students Scholarship Committee oversees three "Loonie Toonie Sundays” per year, now collecting bills and cheques as well as coins. Donations are accepted at the church office anytime. Identifiable donations qualify for a tax receipt. Over the years since 2008, increased support has resulted in forty-one scholarships of $1,000 each.

Any questions can be directed to our committee chair; please email office@stjudeschurch.net or call 905-844-3972. Donations by cash, e-transfer, Canada Helps or credit card are gratefully accepted.
