It’s Advent Giving Tree time again. The Tomato Ladies are honoured, once again, to be collecting donations for the Lighthouse Emergency Shelter in Oakville.
The Tomato Ladies are hopefully relaunching the dinner program at the Lighthouse Emergency Shelter in November. As well as preparing and serving dinner, we provide a gift to each resident in attendance. The gift bag is filled with items that they can use while they are in their temporary home. We assure you that the gifts are very much appreciated! There is a change this year. The shelter is now housing for MEN only. Previously the shelter housed both men and women, but during the pandemic it was necessary to rethink their arrangements and a decision was made to house the women in another facility and they are now with a separate organization.
We are hoping you will help us fill the men’s gift bags by bringing new items as follows over the 4 weeks in Advent:
Advent 1 (Nov 28) – Entertainment – items to help distract and pass the time
- Crossword, Sudoku, Word Search books
- decks of playing cards
- $5 Gift Cards from Tim Horton’s
Advent 2 (Dec 5) – Warmth– at this time of year these items are particularly appreciated
- Men’s hats, gloves, mitts
Advent 3 (Dec 12) – Toiletries – so nice to have your own supplies
- Shampoo (small/medium sized bottles are best)
- Shaving cream
- Lip balm
Advent 4 (Dec 19) – Socks –always needed
- Men’s socks
Please bring items on a Sunday or Wednesday and they can be left under the Advent Tree in the office hallway or dropped off during office hours in the red basket at the entrance. Thank you so much!
